Is the firing portion of the qualification difficult to pass?
No, not with a little practice. You fire 50 rounds worth 5 points each. You need to score 175 points out of 250 points possible. Firing is done at 3, 7, and 15 yards. 40 of the 50 shots will be at 3 and 7 yards, so a practiced shooter can earn the 175 points and qualify even before they get to the 15-yard line. Furthermore, the B-27 is a large target! Personal firearms instruction is available through South Texas Shooting & Safety School for $50 to help you get ready for the firing qualification.
If I take the online course through South Texas Shooting & Safety School, do I have to do the firing qualification through them?
No, as long as you pass the online course you can do the firing portion with any DPS LTC certified instructor in Texas. That means you can take our course online anywhere in the State of Texas and you get to choose anywhere in the State of Texas to complete the firing portion. How convenient is that!
Is a Texas LTC necessary to carry a handgun in Texas?
No, Texas is a Constitutional Carry state. But the Texas LTC gives you many advantages over Constitutional Carry and let’s law enforcement know that you have passed a background check and are competent to carry. This is very important, especially during a traffic stop.
What is the advantage of online LTC vs In-person LTC?
You can do the online portion at home at your pace. In person LTC classes are usually held on Saturdays. That means you have to sacrifice a Saturday to participate in a class that is focused on the entire groups pace. Online you do the classroom portion at your pace and test when you feel confident that you are ready.
